In 2015, Grow Palmer was awarded funding assistance from the Local Food, Local Places program supported by the US Environmental Protection Agency and several other federal agencies. Grow Palmer applied for this program to address the lack of local foods in Palmer, increase economic opportunities for local farmers, build support for protecting farmland and attract people to downtown businesses that feature local foods. Improving the health of residents through local foods and physical activity was also a goal of the program.
The Local Foods, Local Places plan identifies five major community goals with twenty action steps for implementation. Now that the plan has been completed, additional community services and funding resources are being identified to implement the plan.
